Happy Hour

Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned

It’s been a bit since I’ve shared a cocktail recipe around here, so I’m excited to bring you the first of several holiday cocktails I’ve been working on!

Scott and I are mostly wine drinkers when we do drink, but occasionally we like to experiment with mixers when we’re hosting. And a cocktail is often a great way to kick off an evening hosting friends.

I’ve been experimenting recently with one of my favorite drinks, the old fashioned. I’ve heard people say that it needs to be made with rye whiskey, but I’ve also heard tell that it was invented in Louisville, which means you’re not putting in anything if you’re not putting in Bourbon.

Of course, my sister’s been living in Louisville for nearly the last decade, so I may be biased. Either way, this tasty Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned, whether traditional or not, will warm you right up on a cold cozy night.

Cozy warming Bourbon mingles with a dash of bitters and some bright citrus, and needs no added sugar since you’re going to pour in some sweet maple syrup {because of course, I’ll add maple syrup – I’ll put maple in anything!}.

Garnish with an orange slice, a cinnamon stick, and maraschino cherries, and you’ve got a delicious holiday drink that’s not only tasty but pretty to look at as well!
