So, I’m updating the monthly Currently. It all kind of felt the same. Formulaic. You know? I only had time for the same type of things, not the quirky little things that make life unique.
So instead, I’m making some space to be a little more freeform. A few photos. A few random thoughts. Whatever milestones our little family or my job or the blog is going through at the moment.
But it lets me share a little news here and there, chronicle what’s going on in our lives, and keep these non-food posts short and sweet! Let’s see how it goes!
1. I published 12 recipes last month. Solid, well-tested, mostly well-photographed {there are a couple I want to revisit!} recipes we use routinely and love. I think that’s a record.
2. I finally set up an Instagram account specifically for the blog and made my own Instagram account private. It was both therapeutic and sad to kick all the brands I didn’t feel a personal connection with off of my account – and scary to kick off a huge number of really random accounts! My personal Instagram account has been mine for nine years now, and it didn’t feel right making all of that available to the world.
You can find me at @homefrontcooking or just click any of the Instagram links on this page.
3. Since we’re talking Instagram, I’ve had some fun interactions with @aviationgin – they’re my current favorite spirit for mixing and my favorite spirit brand on social! And since we’re all done with #dryjanuary you might be seeing them show up in a future post.
Yes, we tried Dry January for the first half of the month. It wasn’t too hard, since all we really drink is wine. The second half, we opened a gift bottle and took such a long time working our way through it, we figured if we kept on like that, we were fine.
4. We have totally ditched cable {except for our Internet hook-up}. I never thought it would happen, but when you have Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, Disney+, and limited viewing hours due to a toddler in the house who demands Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on continuous loop when he is awake, do you really need cable?
Oh yeah, he’s 18 months old now. 18. Months. Can you believe it?
5. We’ve been working our way through Witcher on Netflix. Henry Cavill is not only perfect as Geralt, but absolutely awesome in his unselfconscious nerdishness. He lobbied hard for the part. This is the same guy who almost missed his Man of Steel audition because he was playing WoW.
6. I did not watch the SAG awards. Or the Golden Globes. Or any of that. See the getting rid of cable above. As far as actors go, I only care about opinions from Dwayne Johnson, because he’s awesome, and Robert Downey Jr. who has started an initiative to use AI to clean up the planet.
7. So I did actually get off my butt and begin training to run again! I’m only getting out and running about 3 times a week, but I’m usually going out for 3-4 miles at a time, so I feel confident that my endurance base is still pretty decent. I’ve been saved by all the non-running miles I’ve been logging per week, usually adding up to about 20 miles worth of walking around work, weekend hikes, and hustling after my active little toddler!
8. What’s for dinner tonight? Turkey stuffed acorn squash. Absolutely delicious!
9. I’m excited for February! It’s going to be a crazy busy month
What are you guys up to this month?
Do what you need to do with your blog since it’s nice to hear news from you, no matter what. Tuesday thoughts sounds like an interesting concept… Speaking of which, I now use Adobe Dreamweaver to update my site instead of Microsoft FrontPage these days since it no longer uses the FrontPage extensions, but it’s great to stay up to date. FrontPage has become a thing of the past, I’ll tell you.
Which day in February are you most excited about?
Oh, it’s definitely a thing of the past. I don’t know which days I’m most excited about – but I think the recipe I’m most excited about is the sweet treat I’m going to be posting next Monday!
