  • My husband @saling.scott makes some absolutely wonderful things on the smoker and grill, but this coffee and spice rubbed sirloin was next level. Absolutely incredible! A little shout out here to @menwiththepot for his favorite knife of all time and a few of the spice ideas we incorporated! 🌶️
  • I forgot to post Day 3 and Day 4, so you’re going to get 3, 4, and 5 today to make up for it! Sorry for the flood! This thought follows our values inventory of Day 2. Where are your values coming into conflict with what other influences in your life value? If there’s a mismatch, what can you do to realign? Are these influences able to negotiate? Can you mitigate by drawing boundaries? Or do you just need to leave?
  • In Darby’s ten months of existence, he’s taught us a lot about love. His is whole-hearted and unconditional. He loves us because we’re his family and because it’s in his nature to love. And he’s really hard not to love back.I’ve really enjoyed watching the love blossom between these two. Scott has never had a dog before and Darby is noisy, chewy, messy, furry, big and boisterous and everything a golden retriever should be. But while he tries to figure out how to keep the fur dust bunnies from forming and brush Darby enough and make sure he doesn’t chew up the house, a bond has formed. He might be my dog, but there’s definitely something to this “man’s best friend” business ❤️🐾
  • A major part of burnout is physical and emotional exhaustion so often people think it’s just overwork that causes it.But it can be so many things. The one thing I think that exacerbates all the other factors is role conflict - when your values are out of alignment with what you’re being asked to do.In the Army, there are many of these. Duty to family vs. selfless service. Agency and autonomy vs. compliance with rules. Innovation vs. tradition. If you’re feeling burnt, take a moment and take a value inventory. Are you aligned? And then go follow my awesome friend @strengthandshieldcoaching because she’s really good at talking you through how to get things aligned again!
  • I’m trying something a little bit different here over the next month. I’ve challenged myself to work on reclaiming balance and setting boundaries and figuring out my best weapons against burnout. And I’m going to share my thoughts here.Day 1 of 28 days of reclaiming your mental space. Day 1: pace yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your mind won’t be decluttered in a day either. Some of us have some mental blocks built up worthy of the old Roman city walls.
  • It’s been an interesting week so far. Reclaiming a little peace and mental space before I dive back into it 🏃🏼‍♀️
