Hello, friends – and happy April!
Let’s just say one big happy Spring while we’re at it!
It honestly feels like spring for the first time since we moved to Virginia almost three years ago! I don’t want to jinx it by saying it, but I’m loving it so much, I have to put it out there. The last couple years, I feel like we were totally shortchanged, that we skipped right from winter to summer with a couple of random cold snaps thrown in there to kill off as many of the spring flowers as possible. But not this year!
I’m starting to get totally bogged down in my job – but in a good way. I love what I’m doing and I’m beyond excited about it. Which means this little hobby blog is going to start taking a backseat to the other things I’m working on.
But at the same time, I think it’s going to be more important than ever. I need it to remind me that it’s okay to take a break now and then and do things that aren’t required by work. We’ll see what the future holds.
And with that said, here’s what’s going on…
Cooking… Light and healthy, or at least that has been the plan! Lots of fish, lots of veggies, lots of citrus, lots of olive oil. So basically the Mediterranean diet. It works for me and Scott likes it, too. This month, I’ll be sharing a bunch of favorites I’ve been adding to our routine, like my salmon tacos, lamb meatballs, and steamed artichokes!
Building… I’ve started on a couple of new projects. One is building a bench for my music room, since I haven’t been able to find anything I’ve liked and I want a place where people can sit and join me when I’m bashing on the piano and attempting to make it sound like music. The other? I’m joining this month’s One Room Challenge to knock out all the updates to my library/office that I’ve been planning!
Exploring… We’re covering favorite hiking trails with the little man and our new Osprey baby backpack! It’s really light and makes even our happy little bowling ball a cinch to cart around over terrain. And I love that it comes with stirrups for his little feet – and a sunshade! Little man loves the outdoors, and we’ve enjoyed getting him out in all the great spring weather we’ve been having!
Learning… About our roots. For some reason, ever since I became pregnant with little man, I’ve been very interested in delving into our family histories so we can tell him the stories of where he came from. Not just our stories, but of my grandparents and great grandparents who boarded ships from Sweden to come to America, who they were and where they came from and why they came here, of Scott’s Scottish relatives who carved out their niche in Ohio so much that there are dozens of streets named after them, and so forth.
Training… I’ve been working on shorter distances, even though I’ll be tackling the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler soon, because next month I’ll have my first Army physical fitness test since I got pregnant with Baby Bean! I count myself lucky that I haven’t had to take it sooner, and while I feel prepared…there’s always a bit of nervousness!
Sipping… We’ve been loving our membership to Paradise Springs Winery, about 10 minutes from our house, and enjoying their spring offerings. Their Norton is a special favorite of Scott’s, and I swoon over the Cabernet Franc. They just released a special bottle of a 15-year Cabernet Franc, and we can’t wait to open it and enjoy!
Loving… My job, if that doesn’t sound too weird. I know I started this blog because I’m a bit of a workaholic and wanted something to focus on that wasn’t work. But maybe I’m not a workaholic for work’s sake. Maybe I’m just actually…passionate about what I’m doing? Go figure. We’ll see where this goes!
