Signs of Spring

Signs of Spring 2019-9345

Oh, hey guys! How’ve you been?

Things have been quieter around On the Home Front this month. Partly because I’ve been swept away by the craze of work {remember that workaholic tendency I’ve talked about?}. And I’ve also started a professional site {recently launched – if you’re interested in data and stats and me saying percent way too often, visit me over at kristinsaling.com}.

Why did I do that? Did I give into the workaholic tendencies?

Not at all. It grew out of a conversation I had with my husband. He said he hadn’t seen me that passionate about my work since we lived in Hawaii and I was doing a combination of humanitarian aid planning and security cooperation with our allies and partners. That wasn’t work just for the sake of working. That was a subject I was extremely passionate about.

And it turns out that my current job is one I’m extremely passionate about, for much the same reasons. Simple ones. It turns out using science to help people is awesome.

I can’t give up On the Home Front. I’m having too much fun over here. And I still need a place online to store my recipes. It’s a whole lot easier to google yourself and a recipe name than to remember where you put that recipe card or what app it’s saved in.

But between loving the hell out of what I’m doing and wanting to spend as much time as possible with my family, things are just going to slow down a little for me online.

And I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all to slow down and figuratively – and literally – smell the flowers.

In the three years we’ve lived here now, Scott and I haven’t seen a spring like this in Virginia! We’ve always had a late cold snap or an early heat wave come in and destroy the blossoms before we have a chance to enjoy them.

But now, it’s easy to swing through the farmer’s market for a bouquet and add a few things from the garden to it to brighten up the house. And we can leave the windows open and let the breeze blow the smell of blossoms inside.

We’re loving this season – and this season of life. I’ll stop in here from time to time to share the things we love about it, but in the meantime, we’re enjoying the change.

  1. I’ve seen your new website and it looks wonderful. Speaking of which, I’m currently working on a major update on my own site, myself, and I promise that it will be finished soon.

I’m glad that everything is going well for you in life, and I hope you have a great day.
